Fake Teams

Mark Teixeira

No one wants to click the glowing green draft button on a guy with a .248 avg.

Well if no one wants him then you do. Here is the ADP of 1B according to MDC

PlayerPosTeamADPEarliestLatestDraft %
1 (2) Miguel Cabrera 1B DET 2.53 1 6 100.0%
2 (3) Albert Pujols 1B ANA 2.88 1 7 100.0%
3 (9) Joey Votto 1B CIN 9.28 3 17 100.0%
4 (10) Adrian Gonzalez 1B BOS 9.45 2 21 100.0%
5 (14) Prince Fielder 1B DET 14.33 4 22 100.0%
6 (27) Mark Teixeira 1B NYY 27.17 15 40 100.0%
7 (46) Paul Konerko 1B,DH CHW 48.26 31 68 100.0%
8 (52) Eric Hosmer 1B KC 53.05 24 76 100.0%
9 (79) Mike Morse 1B WAS 80.28 37 116 100.0%
10 (119) Freddie Freeman 1B ATL 121.34

Top four first basemen will likely be drafted in the first round leaving Prince in the second. A round later Teixeira should come off the board leaving a gaping hole between him and old man Paul Konerko who's age and lack of runs set him back. Teixeira holds top 15 value in the third round. Why?

Teixeira's 39 HR in 2011 were the most of all first basemen. Granted, Albert Pujols was out for a while but Tex will hit 35+ this year.

Also. Teixeira plays on the Yankees who look to be a stronger than usual contender this season which should provide 100 if not 110+ runs and RBIs which puts among Pujols and Cabrera.

The only flaw, his scary batting average. .248 last season is going to scare off some owners. However, Tex has a career average of .281

Here are Teixeira's averages since his debut in 2003:

2003 .259

2004 .281

2005 .301

2006 .282

2007 .306

2008 .308

2009 .292

2010 .256

2011 .248

Keep these numbers in your mind while I tell you 3 key useless seeming facts.

1. From 2009 on, Tex has played in pinstripes, when the new Yankee Stadium opened, he joined the team for their championship run.

2. Tex is a switch hitter (not really that useless)

3. Yankee Stadium is a power hitting lefty haven

Almost 70% of his AB are Left-handed but his average from the left side of the plate was only .251 in the last three years. His average from the right side was .299.

In the last two years Tex has been below .500 in slugging for the first time since his rookie season 2003.

Now don't be thrown off by his 77 HR left-handed to 34 right-handed since 2009, 77HR/1247AB=6.16% and 34HR/552AB=6.15% meaning that he hits roughly the same amount of HR to AB on either side of the plate, so HR are not the issue. The average is.

From the left side Tex keeps trying to take advantage of the short porch in right rather than looking for a ball to drive into the gap for a double or make contact for a single. All he is thinking about is a HR. In fact, Teixeira has had back to back to back career lows in GB/FB in his three years as a Yankee.

The numbers are there, but the problem is mental.

Tex has realized that the right field wall has tantalized him while in the lefty box and is trying to make a change.

I say the change will happen. My Tex projection: 111 R 37 HR 123 RBI .307 AVG

Baseball Keeper Help Needed

Got myself a dilemma. I'm in a league that can keep 3 players from last year. I've got Joey Votto as a lock. But the next 2 I'm less than sure of. Here's the list of guys I'm considering:

David Wright

Ryan Zimmerman

Pablo Sandoval

Carlos Santana

These will all go against my 1st three picks, so what round doesn't play a factor. I've got a UTIL positions so I don't mind keeping 2 3B if I have to. I'm leaning Wright and Santana. But Wrights age and recent injuries have me worried. Santana has the position scarcity on his side, but is he as good as he showed last year? Sandoval scored very few runs for as many HR as he hits. Zimmerman is an enigma to me.

So what do you guys think?

Should I make this trade offer?

So I'm in an AL-only auction keeper roto league ($50 salary cap for 23 players), and am looking to make a deal... I would trade:

Two years of Ian Kinsler at $4.75 with an option for a third year at $5.75, two years of Jarrod Saltalamacchia at $1.75, and two years of Brandon McCarthy at $0.25 with an option for a third year at $1.25

for

Four years of Carlos Santana at $4.00, two years of Ryan Raburn at $0.25, and two years of David Price at $3.50.

I'm thinking of doing this deal mostly because my league doesn't have a huge emphasis on stolen bases (1 of 9 offensive categories), and I'd be getting Santana for a longer deal than I'd have Kinsler. Raburn does have some playing time concerns, but Salty's job isn't exactly secure, and while I like McCarthy, especially with that contract, I'd rather have the sure thing in Price.

What are your thoughts? Would you still like this deal even if Price/McCarthy was taken out of the deal?

Do I make this deal

I have been Offered Roy Halladay for Yu Darvish, and Randell Delgado. This is a Dynasty league and I am built to win now, and later. Roy is getting old, and Yu would have a ML contract, and when he isn;t starting I could hide him in my minors. Am I crazy to pass up on Halladay?

This is a points based league, Halladay has a 1 year contract and I would have to use 1 of my 3 resign contracts on him.

Using my waiver priority

I'm in a 16 team dynasty league where we keep players indefinitely. My roster is as follows:

C - Miguel Montero
1B - Lucas Duda
2B - Jose Altuve
3B - Ryan Zimmerman
SS - Alexei Ramirez
OF - Jay Bruce
OF - Jose Bautista
OF - Ben Zobrist
UTIL - Dayan Viciendo
UTIL - Kendrys Morales
BN - Matt Joyce
BN - Scott Sizemore
BN - Angel Pagan
BN - Wilin Rosario
BN - Nyger Morgan

SP - Cole Hamels
SP - Adam Wainwright
SP - Cliff Lee
RP - JJ Putz
RP - Brandon League
P - Clay Buchholz
P - Brian Matusz
P - Brad Peacock
BN - Rich Thompson
BN - Bobby Parnell
BN - Shelby Miller
BN - Jake McGee

With yahoo recently opening, waiver claims can be made, and I currently own the second waiver spot. Assuming that Cespedes is picked with the first priority. Is it worth using my waiver slot on any of the following : Greg Holland, Alejandro de Aza, or Mike Aviles.

If i dont use it, i could conceivably save it to get someone who comes out of nowhere (isnt near the top 100 on any lists) to make an impact. Getting someone who is drafted in the 2012 draft isnt likely though, because of a rule in our league that allows a team to draft players who were previously drafted (even if they didnt sign, so last year rendon, gray, cole, jungmann were all taken, this year saw appel, marrero, zunino, roache et al go)

Dynasty league: Make some trades?

I'm working on getting my dynasty ready to roll for this season (and beyond, of course), and have already made a couple trades and am looking at a couple others. It's an 11 team roto that counts Runs, RBIs, HRs, SBs, BBs, OBP and AVG for batters and QS, WHIP, ERA, K, K/9, HLD, and SV for pitchers. I like my team for the very most part, but there are a couple things that aren't perfect and there are some trade options in the league right now.

Here's the roster...as you can see it's set up as a standard AL style roster:

C Yadier Molina

1B Adrian Gonzalez

2B Dustin Pedroia

3B Ryan Zimmerman

SS Starlin Castro

OF Jacoby Ellsbury, Jay Bruce, Justin Upton

UTIL Eric Hosmer

Bench Emilio Bonifacio, Daniel Murphy, Jason Heyward, J.P. Arencibia

SP: Yovani Gallardo, Jon Lester, Mat Latos, Brandon Beachy, Jordan Zimmermann

RP: Cory Luebke, Sergio Santos, Antonio Bastardo, Mark Melancon, Aroldis Chapman, Rafael Soriano, Francisco Rodriguez (MIL)

DL: Carl Crawford, Rubby De La Rosa, Brett Anderson, Jorge De La Rosa

I've also got Trevor Bauer, Jesus Montero, and many others who won't be relevant for a while in my minor league system.

Zack Greinke and Jonathan Papelbon were put on the trading block in my league a little while ago, and I've been considering making a move to try to acquire them. I'm considering offering Crawford, J. Zimmermann, and Soriano. I'm figuring that I since I traded for Hosmer last season to play UTIL, I can get rid of Crawford, especially since I traded for Heyward as my 4th OF. I'm perfectly content with my offense the way it is and I'm ecstatic that I've got useful guys with such great eligiblities on my bench. The only thing I'm not happy with is my closer situation and my SP5 slot. I'd feel a lot better about both with this deal, plus I don't have to worry about what to do with Crawford when he comes off the DL. My biggest concern is that adding Greinke creates a problem when Bauer gets called up, which I'm guessing will probably be this season or next season. Would you be concerned about that, or would you try to get a deal like this done and worry about an SP jam later? Assuming Bauer is used as a starter, I have 100 IP before he has to be called up, traded, or released.

What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for your help!

Dynasty trade help

I am in a 16 team dynasty league and I have been offered two separate deals:

1. I was offered Matt Cain (2 years) for Matt Holliday (1 year) and Cory Luebke (2 years).

2. I was offered Jaime Garcia (2 years) and Johan Santana (1 year) for Matt Holliday (1 year)

Would you doeither deal? I am torn on what to do. I could use some SP's but I lose the power stats too.

Please give me your thoughts!

thanks.

Who's Excited For Fantasy Baseball?

I wanted to see who out there is pumped up for some fantasy baseball this season? To be honest, this is the first season in the last few years that I have been really excited? Why? Because 1) I changed jobs which will allow for me to have the summer off from working and 2) because I am going to try out Scoresheet Fantasy Baseball for the first time this year.

I am only 28 years old, but have been playing fantasy baseball since I was 12. I played online and faked my age and used my parents credit card info, and I have been playing annually for the last 15 years or so. When you do something over a long period of time, you experience the ups and downs. As a kid, I thought fantasy baseball was fun because it was all about the stats kids know and are familiar with. I remember having arguments with kids about who was a better baseball player based soley on career HRs, which is silly in retrospect but logical as a kid.

Where I have grown frustrated with fantasy baseball is that the stats do not tell the entire picture. I play fantasy sports because I want to prove to my friends (or to random people online) that I am the most knowledgeable sports fan they know, and fully qualified to be a real life baseball GM.... Well, maybe not that far, but we all have to have dreams.

I decided to try Scoresheet this year because I liked the aspect of factoring many different aspects of a player to use in a simulated game, as opposed to just compiling arbitrary stats. My AL-only league started its online draft today (it's something like 1 pick per team per day for the next 35 days or so), and my NL-only league starts it up this weekend. I've got the baseball juices going, and am excited to give it a shot of trying to build a complete team and seeing if my philosophies about baseball ring true, or are crazy.

I know it's early, but this is the most excited I have been about fantasy baseball in years, and here's to a great 2012. If the Mayans are correct, it might be the last time we are playing fantasy baseball anyhow. Gotta make the most of it!

Some keeper help

My league keeps eight, one of whom needs to be age 24 or younger by the start of the season. No contracts or anything, just keep them however long you want.

I have: Pujols, Hill, Michael Young, Rollins, Neil Walker, Reynolds, Yunel Escobar, Gardner, Granderson, Ichiro, Heyward, Butler, Hart, Francoeur, Jayson Werth as hitters.

Pitching: Hudson, Morrow, Perez, Hamels, Rivera, Storen, Latos, Danks, Hellickson, Jurrjens, and Tomlin.

I'm thinking about keeping: Pujols, Grandy, Hamels, Latos but don't know about the rest.

Thanks for the help.

I get 3 keepers, who should be my 3rd?

I'm in a league that allows three keepers, in the round that they were drafted in, that can be kept 3 times. FA adds default to the 10th round. H2H weekly lineup with categories of AVG, OPS, 2B, 3B, HR, SB, BB, R, RBI

I'm already planning on keeping Carlos Gonzalez in the 11th round (2nd year to keep) and Mat Latos in the 21st (2nd year to keep.)

My other 3 choices are Brett Lawrie in the 10th (1st yr), Hunter Pence in the 10th (2nd year), or Kevin Youkilis in the 9th (2nd year). Most preseason rankings say I should keep Lawrie and that's where I'm leaning. I'm playing to win it this year, and am not too overly worried by the fact that Pence and Youk have used up a year of keeper eligibility.

I guess my main question is, do you all think Lawire outproduce both Pence and Youk this year in this 9-cat league? The potential sophomore slump worries me, whereas I'd know exactly what I'm getting from Pence and Youkilis.
